Born in Puerto Rico; I came to New York; after graduating from from

High School. Enter Kingsborough Community College (bilingual Program)with intent to learn English and accomplish to get 23 credits

in Liberal Arts.

After getting married and having children, when my children enter school, I was very involve in parents, issues. While my children attended school in East New York(District 19th), I became a P.T.A. president. While lobbying for a very overcrowded school; at that time P.S. 7 and

I.S. 171(two school in one small building) I also became a School Board

member. My passion for the children and there well being, let me to work

hard and organized parents to attend meetings and rally. Years latter that hard work pay off with a new building for P.S. 7 in Jamaica Street. I had already move to Long Island when the school was build, but it gives me real satisfaction to know that I was part of the accomplishment.

While living in Long Island, I started working with Home Depot. In order to be able to assist my customers and give them good information, I enroll in few courses of Interior Design at Suffolk Community College. From Sales Associate, I was promoted to Assistant Supervisor and went to help open the very first store in Puerto Rico. I came back to N.Y. when we had open the 2nd store, one in Carolina, P.R. and the other in Bayamon, P.R.

After completing my commitment with Home Depot in Puerto Rico and my passion to work with children, inspired me to come back and open my own, Family Day Care. I Apply for Home Cay care Registration Certification, and were required to complete 30 hours of training. Some of the topics and training classes were on nutrition and health needs for the children, childhood development, safety, security, and other very important issues. After managing the Family Day Care for Four years, circumstances prompt me to sell the house.

In November 28th 2006, I started working for Cypress Hills After School Program, and have the opportunity to once more be able to advance and improve my knowledge with the opportunity offered by The Center for After-School Exellence. Here I am in 2008 at the age of 61 attending York College and once more, as I have done before with my previous task and commitments, I am preparing my self and developing my skills to be able to help the children in our community.

Subjects - Art/History

While doing research students will learn about animals, circus skills, acrobatics act, preparing stage, writing script.

This information will be in a power point presentation format with the teacher’s help for students to observe and rehearse the various acts and performance.

LET’S JOIN THE CIRCUS

Introduction:

We are going to join the Circus! We will be Ring Masters, Acrobats, Clowns and we will be learning about many other people that work in the Circus. You will be learning about all the hard work and collaboration that takes for a circus to bring you joy. It brings you so much happiness but it takes a lot of people and a lot of work to put it together.

Task:

* You will gather information from books and bring them to class; we will also go to the library and use the computer to research information. Once we put all the information together we will be working together in my computer to prepare a power point presentation, you will be reading along with me as we enter the information in my computer (will bring my computer to school that day). Information to will be gather on:

a) Circus skills
b) Acrobatics skills
c) Clowns
d) Animals act
e) Many other jobs and acts that goes on during the show

* After entering information in a power point format, these will be used to learn and rehears the various acts and performances.

Objective:

At the end of the month, the show must go on. Parents will be invited to the grand opening of P.S 65 Circus. The greatest show on earth!

Evaluation:

Evaluation will be based on: Interest, gathering of information, performance and participation.

Students will be recognized at the time of the show and will be rewarded by the parent’s applause.

Conclusion:

At the end of the month students have interact with one another and practice a lot of team work. There are many lessons to be learned during this project. Reading, Writing,
Arts, Performance and will also learn about the animals in the circus. How to develop and put together a circus act

Lesson Plan

This is a reading and writing lesson for second graders.

Goal: Help students to improve their reading and writing skills. Encourage and maintain their interest in reading during the up coming summer moths. Using this exciting and challenging method will increase student attention to reading and writing.
Task: Students will learn the use of multimedia by recording their Reading Club activities, taking pictures, creating posters with pictures taken and ultimately making a Power Point presentation.

Book Club
Process: Part One
• Book Club will be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursday for One hour at the end of the class.
• Each student will choose a short story book, practice reading it at home. Look for new words and meanings.
• Student will prepare a written statement about; what they like must about the book and why? The written statement should include the new words with its meaning.
• Book will be read and discuss during Book Club time, also new words with its meaning will be discuss. Pictures will be taken during student participation.
• Picture of each student will be taken while reading book and during discussion. Picture of student holding book to show titled will be also taken.
• Students can read as many books as they want, when each student fish with their turn, they will be ask, who wants to go again?
• Before going into process two, one section of the Reading Club will be dedicated to:
a) Spell checking and grammatical changes to written work.
b) Draw, cut pictures (from magazines or news papers) or use clip art, to decorate presentation of written work.
This will be done collectively; students will share clips, help and make suggestions to each other.

Process: Part Two
• Once part one is finish, all work should be collected and display on a tag board ready for student to take final picture with end result. This will be place on wall or table with student pointing and being proud of their work.
• Each student will take turns taking pictures of one class mate with their work.
• Process of picture transferring and how we are going to use the Power Point presentation will be explained as a class presentation by me. (will be using personal computer)
• Time for project will not be set since students can read and present as many books as they want.
• Each student will make a presentation of their work to the program director. Their presentation would be supported with the Power Point Presentation.

Evaluation: Each student will be given a certificate for each book read and presentation.
Conclusion: Want to encourage students to read and write. I hope they like this process and will keep the love for it. I hope we can do it again!
